Their performance career includes work by celebrated choreographers such as Shen Wei, Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham, and Trisha Brown, alongside a soloist role in Love and Depositions, a devised theater piece created with UNCSA’s world-renowned School of Drama. As a teacher, Isa strives to empower movers with the tools to evolve as both artists and technicians. Their classes center consent-based education, giving students agency over their bodies and permission to enjoy their own technical processes. For Isa, dance is not only a practice of rigor but also one of joy, physical freedom, and community. They believe every body—regardless of size, age, or ability—has the right to revel in movement and the profound intimacy it fosters among groups. In the studio, Isa invites students to investigate dance as a form of communication and storytelling, with attention to non-Western modes of expression and an honoring of their Cuban heritage through music and movement.
At the heart of Isa’s artistry is a belief that dance is a platform for empowerment, self-expression, and cultural exchange. Whether performing, teaching, or choreographing, they are dedicated to cultivating inclusive creative spaces where agency, narrative, and collaboration intersect. Most recently, Isa has expanded their practice internationally through a collaboration with an artist based in Guadalajara, Mexico. Together, they led their first workshop Feeld of Being in Atlanta and are working toward building bridges between the dance communities of Atlanta and Mexico, fostering dialogue, exchange, and shared growth across borders.
